Welcome to Ironfront - Alien Reich.

Voting

Sadly my game took over 12 hours to compile (THANKS UNREAL!) so I missed the deadline :( But the game is still great IMO!

Theme

This game was written for GMTK 2024 game jam with the theme: Built to scale (missed the deadline)

Story

The year is 1940. The Nazis have completely taken over France and enough is enough. An elite group of soldiers have been sent across the channel to take it back. You arrive in the dead of night and expect to be riddled with bullets but to your surprise...the security is feeble. Make your way to the hidden allied bunker and find out what is going on.

Gameplay

This is a third-person adventure game based on Medal Of Honor games (when they were good) where you take down enemies, heal, and find a way to push back the Nazis.

Developer Comments

This is easily my biggest game yet. Its been so much fun to create and I have tried/learned so many new things that I have to upgrade my personal skill by two levels easily. I had a very rough idea for a game before the jam then when I saw the theme it all clicked into place. I really enjoy the game and the gameplay is pretty good for 4 days.

What I did well

  • Lots of new tech used! Gameplay Ability System, Advanced Locomotion System, Choas Destruction physics, UI materials, improved sound usage, and climbing the large enemies is so fun!
  • Blocked off the vast majority of the map to make it more linear.
  • I focused on gameplay first this time instead of story / world building.

What I would do better next time

  • Stop getting so distracted. I got so distracted this time by doing random jobs around the house instead of focusing on this. Whilst thats okay - I could have added a lot more!

New things I've learned

  • Gameplay Ability System - is a tool built into Unreal to help create a great system you can change abilities per character on the fly. I've used to to handle the jumping, crouching and more. It required many C++ changes which was all good!
  • Advanced locomotion system - whilst I've used it before, I have heavily modded parts of it this time to match what I need. I'm actually tempted to start using it more!
  • Choas Destruction Physics - to blow things up! Whilst its not as good as I had it in my head, I think with more playtime it could become very nice!
  • UI materials - I watched a bunch of tutorials to create the on-screen HUD
  • Improved sound usage - I really got into the sounds for this game. Adding environment sounds, and background music, trying to make the world feel more lived in. I even fade the audio at specific points! - Maybe I should look into FMOD next?
  • Climbing large enemies - the end game. This section was SO MUCH FUN to kit bash and code in. it worked so well and it really fits the theme IMO.
  • Cheat manager - a built in tool to add console commands for ease of deving. Its so easy to use! I created this years ago manually in my own project. No-where near as good as the built in one!

Known bugs

  • None so far!

Assets used

  • Narrative Quests & Dialogue by Reubs
  • Narrative Interaction by Reubs
  • Polygon War by Synty Studios
  • Polygon Space by Synty Studios

Voices

All the voices in this game were done by me. (if you didn't know this after playing it, maybe I have backup job lined up hahah)

hope you enjoyed the process!

Hey! Welcome first timer :D

Sadly no, I've missed the deadline so thats it. I'm still going to put the game out (I'll do it on a new game so this one isn;'t touched)
I did. I had a great time!

Thank you :)

Sorry to hear that, it almost happened to me too. I'd gladly try it out if you manage to release it after the voting period ends!

Thats very kind of you!
Thank you :D
I'll play your game shortly :D
